Sometimes, the best memories are made not in far-off lands, but just a few hours from home. That’s exactly what happened when my friends and I decided to take a spontaneous trip to Ananthagiri Hills – and honestly, it turned out to be one of the most refreshing day-outs we’ve had in a while.

Like most of our plans, this one started with someone randomly saying, “Let’s go on a trek tomorrow.” Surprisingly, everyone was in. We packed snacks, downloaded playlists, grabbed our dusty sneakers, and hit the road the next morning.
Located about 80 km from Hyderabad, the drive itself was a vibe – good music, bad singing, and chai breaks in between. We started around 7:30 AM, just in time for the cool breeze and golden sunlight filtering through the trees.

We chose the jungle trail over the temple route – because why not add a little adventure? The path was muddy in parts, but that only made it more fun. We trekked through red-soiled paths, dense trees, and found ourselves surrounded by nothing but birdsong and laughter.

At one point, we lost the trail for a bit, ended up going “off-road,” and discovered a beautiful open spot perfect for selfies and chilling.

Here are some highlights:
- A dramatic mini-photo shoot with the trees (nature deserves our modeling)
- Impromptu pose session when someone’s speaker started playing Bollywood classics
- A quiet moment where we just sat, stared at the trees above, and talked about everything and nothing
- That one friend who had to climb every rock and tree we passed

After the trek, we headed to a small local eatery and devoured juice and coconut water. Nothing tastes better than a coconut water after a morning hike.

This trek wasn’t about conquering a mountain – it was about reconnecting. With nature. With each other. With ourselves.
Ananthagiri Hills may not be the tallest or the toughest trek, but it gave us something we hadn’t realized we were missing – a simple, peaceful, joy-filled day in the wild, with the best company.

If you’re looking for a quick nature escape near Hyderabad, gather your gang and go! You won’t regret it.
