Whispers of the Cursed Walls: My Visit to Bhangarh Fort

Visiting the spookiest place of India was at the top of my travel list. While my stay in Alwar, I took a road trip to Bhangarh fort and this experience cannot be described just in words. It was not just reaching Bhangarh, the whole journey was an experience in itself.

Bhangarh Fort

It took me around 4 hours to reach Bhangarh Fort. The roads were well maintained except for some remote areas where it was quite difficult on a motorcycle. The view all along was beautiful and myself and Priyanka felt like stopping for a moment and admire the beauty of Rajasthan. Do stop at any Tapri for some local Rajasthani snacks.

On the way to Bhangarh fort

The 16th century Bhangarh Fort, which was once a beautiful kingdom and a famous market, now lies in ruins. However, even its ruins are worth a visit. The place is beautiful, despite what remains now is only a shadow of its eventful past.

Bhangarh fort is also called the roofless fort

The architecture of Bhangarh fort is intriguing. The fort is located at the foot of the Aravalli hills and it looks and covers a large area. Even though the fort is in ruins, there are three grand storeys to be explored. The fort precincts have various temples, palaces and multiple gates.

The fort houses some of the oldest temples

While going to through the fort structure, we walked through a long road lined on both sides with ruins. These were the Jauhari bazaars and the houses of dancing girls (Nachan ki Haveli).

Beware of the monkeys because if they spot you with snacks in your hand they will try to snatch it away. There were several temples inside. It depicted some marvellous architectural skills of that era.

Massive pillars make the fort beautiful

These are what remain of the once abuzz markets and beautiful palaces. These remnants are indicators of the fort’s prosperity during its zenith.

The abandoned city of Bhangarh may or may not be haunted but it is definitely worth a visit. The stories and legends give the fort of Bhangarh a very spooky and negative aura.

Bhangarh has the stunning Aravali hills in the background

I saw peacocks, moneys, kangaroos, pigeons and some other birds in the campus. All the stories that i heard about Bhangarh were running through my mind. I cant say whether they were true or not but as a traveller I enjoyed the whole journey and my trip to Asia’s most haunted place.

A fort that is as mysterious as they say

If you are in Alwar, make sure to visit the fort for its natural beauty and to understand the years old heritage of Rajasthan.
